Bleeding Thorn Cosplay Shoot at Sturtevant Falls

Back at the beginning of October, Yume Yumiko kicked off the start of its media team with our very first off-con cosplay photoshoot! Our delightful model for the day was Bleeding Thorn Cosplay (aka Thai Giles)!

It was a day filled with a LOT of walking, since we started off on the trail of Sturtevant Falls. There is about a 40 minute walk through a small forest to get there from parking, and we had a lot of things to carry. As you may imagine, it was very tiring. If you check out the gallery and wonder where the waterfall is, you may be slightly disappointed to hear that it was mostly dried up, and the falls were essentially a trickling wet mark along a tall rock face.

Sean (Gumi) said to me that he had planned the shoot to be logistically demanding, so that we could test how well we could manage. Overall, I don't regret his decision on that. He planned the small details of the trip well, and we definitely brought enough equipment. We got a good feel for how we should pace our time for future shoots, since for this one we spent too much time on Thai's Blake cosplay, and had little time for Sinon. Despite all the walking, we all were satisfied, and had a good amount of time to bond and form friendships.

This picture pretty much sums up how we felt after the shoot.

We all walked together through the forest, cracking twigs, bones, and puns. Thai had a lot to say about RWBY, Warframe, Destiny, and other games, so it was pretty nice to talk to someone who knew their stuff. Light was running out as we walked back up to our car, and the forest vibe was getting a bit more creepy.

We returned from Sturtevant Falls exactly at nightfall, and then we headed down to Labin Court in Rowland Heights. While we had planned to have a cosplay shoot at a cafe within the plaza, it was closed at the moment, so we settled for shots in the court.

A rare moment where Thai actually looks serious.

It seems like cosplay isn't exactly normal at the court, because we drew a few stares. I don't think it was necessarily a bad thing, though a few people did ask what we were shooting and dressing up for.

She certainly turned a few curious heads.

Though we were tired from walking for a large portion of the day, we still had enough energy to shoot and have some fun on the side.

The entire day was a great learning experience, and I feel like we grew more as a team. In the future, we hope to shoot more people at once, and function at a higher level as a crew. As we grow in our skills, arsenal, network, and knowledge base, I know that we will form many unforgettable memories.

Thank you very much for shooting with us Thai! We hope to do it again soon!
